The Espresso Martini

The exact history of the Espresso Martini is not definite but one theory suggests the drink was first created by cocktail guru Dick Bradsel in 1984; a relatively short history in cocktail-making terms. According to the aforementioned London bartender, a famous model came into Fred’s Bar, and crassly asked him to make her a drink that would “wake me up, and then fuck me up” and Dick’s subsequent creation was the first espresso martini. He initially called it ‘The Stimulant’.

Ingredients

10ml sugar syrup
12.5ml kahlua
37.5ml vodka
50ml espresso
3 fresh coffee beans

Shake all ingredients over ice and double strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with the coffee beans

The Pornstar Martini

The original Porn Star Martini was invented by the legendary Douglas Ankrah, founder of the ‘London Academy of Bartending’ and owner of venues such as Atlantic, LAB and Townhouse. Since then, various bars have attempted to master the art of re-creating this light and playful cocktail.

Here I share a personal recipe for the Pornstar, one that’s been tried, tested and tweaked during my many years in the bar trade.

Ingredients

5ml sugar syrup
20ml lemon juice
10ml passion fruit syrup
40ml Stoli vanilla vodka
40 ml pineapple juice
Shot of champagne on the side
½ Passion fruit as garnish

Shake all ingredients over ice and double strain into a chilled martini glass. Add the passion fruit half and serve with the shot of champagne on the side. This can either be added in or drunk as a chaser
